They say successful people make their own luck.
I actually agree with that but… with one big asterisk*.
In Silicon Valley, we all know that too much of that “luck” is gated by a hidden network that controls the money, access and credibility of the tech community. I’ve been seeing this play out in many different forms over the last decade. I fell in love with tech & startups precisely because I imagined this community to be a band of rebels and non-conformists. The reality of course is Silicon Valley is its own kind of ivory tower.
Isn’t it crazy that we as a Tech community are willing to miss out on talent and ideas because of outdated power structures? I want to see all the visionaries and rebels out there get a fair shot and that’s what JANE VC is about.
JANE VC funds women with big ideas at the earliest stage of their journey. Our mission is to find and support more female founders and use our collective resources to accelerate the efforts of many others in venture and startup-land stepping up to #ChangeTheRatio right now.
Here’s how JANE will do that:
- Radical transparency. We will do our best to demystify fundraising and teach you what we know about how to find the right investors.
- Seek out potential, not pedigree. We will be open to founders from all backgrounds and not limit ourselves to the “who’s who” of tech.
- Be there in the hard early days. We will root for you (for real, not as a fad) and bring our experience and network to the table to get you started.
I’ve always thought that the best way to change the world for the better is to back great people with bright ideas and then help them WIN.
There are so many ways to do this, as an employee, as a consumer, as an advisor, as a manager. This year, I wanted to back initiatives that will have a multiplier effect on our industry and tech culture. That’s why I’m thrilled to support JANE VC and my fellow Stanford Biz ladies, Jennifer Neundorfer, Maren Bannon along with others on the Investment Committee to make this happen.
